Do I need to be an elite player to join the Academy?

Can I join the Academy if I don't want to study overseas?
Yes! AVA supports athletes who want to stay in New Zealand or explore overseas opportunities. Our resources cater to a wide range of pathways.
What services does the Academy offer?

How do I access the Academy's resources?
To access the Academy's resources, you need to join as a member. Once registered, you'll have complete access to our online platform.

While AVA’s core focus is on athletes, parents and coaches are encouraged to support their athletes by utilising the resources AVA offers.
Are there scholarships available through the Academy?
AVA does not provide direct scholarships but provides guidance on applying for scholarships both locally and internationally. We assist athletes in understanding the requirements and preparing applications.
GENERAL RECRUITMENT QUESTIONS
When should I start the recruitment process?
It is best to start the recruitment process early in your high school years, ideally in Year 11 or Year 12. Starting early allows you to explore different universities, showcase your skills, and build connections with coaches.
Am I too old to start the recruitment process?
No, it is never too late to begin the recruitment process. Different universities have different needs, and athletes of all ages can find opportunities if they show talent and dedication.
What resources does AVA provide for recruitment?
Through the AVA Recruitment Course, athletes gain familiarity with volleyball pathways, developing highlight videos, contacting coaches, researching programmes & creating recruitment profiles to get your name out there.
How do I get noticed by college coaches?
Creating a recruitment profile, updating highlight videos, and proactively contacting coaches are some of the best ways to get noticed by college coaches.
How important are grades in the recruitment process?
Grades are very important as they determine eligibility for university admission. Coaches look for well-rounded athletes who also excel academically.
Do I need to take standardised tests like the SAT or ACT?
Yes, but only if you wish to study in the USA; Canada doesn't have this requirement. Many universities in the USA require standardised test scores as part of their admission process. It is recommended to check the specific requirements of each school.
