About Sonny
Sonny Arapeta Hirini has had a long and successful volleyball career, competing at high levels both in New Zealand and overseas. A former student at Matamata College and Tauranga Boys' College, he was a House Captain, Prefect, and All-Round Sportsman of the Year in 2011.
His pathway took him to the United States, where he played for Pfeiffer University (NCAA) from 2012-2016 while earning a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management & Accounting. His performances earned him Conference 1st Team selections in 2014-15 and a Conference 2nd Team selection in 2016.
Sonny has remained involved in the volleyball community, continuing to mentor and support the development of New Zealand volleyball. His experience as both a player and leader has made him a respected figure in the sport.
